Wonderfull – thanks Liz!
I really feel these horses were a part of my heritage and childhood and I was devastated to hear the sad news. Having worked for the past several years in the candyfloss and donut kiosk beside the horses, I have seen so many people enjoy them. Lets hope we can keep the paddling pool on the beach so another piece of canvey’s history isn’t destroyed.
I remember them well. My parents owned the newsagents next to the Casino throughout the 80s and I rode them lots as a child. As I got older I obviously didn’t (a teenager on a coin operated horse is not a good look) but walked past them pretty much daily. They were a part of the seafront and it’s a shame to hear they’re gone. Concrete Barge… Seafront Horses… my childhood is evaporating!
