Bill Sparks looks like the soldier on the landing craft approaching the beach by Pegasus Bridge. You see him on all the D-Day landings movies and I’ve always wondered who he was. Was it Gold or Sword Beach? But Pegasus Bridge was taken by British Airborne gliders and paras. They were relieved by Lovat’s 6th Commandos with his weapon of mass destruction, the bagpipe, then later by 2nd Battalion The Royal Warwickshires. That doesn’t fit Bill’s history though. Could this be the same man? I wish I knew. I think it’s still under Official Secrets Act.
