Popular Canvey grocer Albert Jones of Jones’ Stores, Long Road, Canvey, and Mrs. Vera Eileen Ray, of 49 Mayland Avenue, Canvey were married at Southend Registrar’s Office on Saturday. A reception was held in a marquee in the garden of the bride’s home, when 150 people attended.

The bride wore a champagne-coloured matching coat and dress and carried a bouquet of pink roses and white freesias. A touring honeymoon is being spent in the west country.

Mr Jones said that he and his wife were “overwhelmed by all the good wishes and and many gifts received.”

Mr Jones served for a time in the wartime Canvey fire service before volunteering for the Royal Navy. He is well-known for his support of local organisations and many people have expressed to this paper their sincere wishes for his and his wife’s continued happiness.
