The Queen's Silver Jubilee Street Party in 1977
Pauline Burns collection
To celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee the residents of Stella Maris Close held a fancy dress street party. Pauline’s daughter and son took part dressed as Queen Elizabeth I and a Household Cavalry Guard. Pauline and her husband John made both costumes from scratch using, amongst other materials, crepe paper, chicken wire and petersham. The uniform jacket was made from a girl’s blouse which had been turned inside out.
