Liam Heatherson

On Friday will be the funeral of Vince Heatherson aged 33. He worked very hard for Canvey in his short life. ‘Canvey 2000’ and the first memorial Flood plaque (which he fought for and organised at the tender age of 18) are just two things he was acssociated with. He was known by many as Vince the gardener.

  • My husband was far too young to die. I can’t get to grips he has died. He done so much and he wanted to do so much more.

  • I had the honour of working with Vince on Canvey 2000 from its very beginnings. He was the most enthusiastic young man I have ever come across, his vision for Canvey seafront and his hard work will never be forgotten – he was really amazing. He was the kindest and gentlest person I have ever met with never a bad word for anyone. Vince will be remembered always by his fellow Canvey 2000ers with much love and affection.

  • Sadly, and because I left Canvey before his time,I didn’t have the opportunity of meeting or knowing Vince Heatherson. However, as I read about him and his natural creative and visionary abilities I get this “electric” feeling which must have been present to anybody while in his company. It is so obvious that he was taken from his family, the Island and it’s residents at far too young an age!! His legacy must live on. Gerald

  • I am pleased to hear that Liz – i will as you say – watch this space.

  • I would love the bumblebee garden to be changed to Vincent heatherson gardens cause he did so much down the sea front and I want him to be remembered for ever. For the kind loving person he is.

  • The Labworth Memorial Garden is in the process of being taken over by Canvey Town Council. Once the paperwork is in place (which should be very soon) the name will be changed to The Vince Heatherson Garden. Vince was instrumental in the creation of this garden and so it is the perfect way to remember him.

  • I’ll be writing an article on the achievements of Vince very soon. He was the reason for getting me into that ‘Island’ feel of community and history. A service may even be done when the park is renamed and a plaque put up.

  • I strongly agree there should also be a plaque for my husband vincent heatherson to be placed in bumblebee gardens. He would love that and mean alot to the family.
