Easter visit by Furtherwick Park group
to the South of France
Easter 1987 saw a coach load of Furtherwickians on a trip to the south of France. It was one of the annual visits organised by Marc Sabadin who taught French at the school. A mix of pupils, teaching and admin staff would go on the 22 hour coach trip to St Raphael where we stayed in the Centre de Vacances. From there we visited Nice, Cannes, Menton, St Tropez, Grasse, St Juste and Monaco.
I wonder if anyone recognises themselves or can remind me who was on that trip? It’s such a long while ago I’ve forgotten a lot of the names.
The group stayed here in Centre de Vacances. Le Lion de Mer, St Raphael.

Lol, I remember this trip. I’m in the first group photo, right at the top/back.
As a “returning” guest pupil, and being the 18 I was constantly bombarded to buy booze for everyone!!! Although I do remember there being these huge barrels of wine and the end of the long dinner tables each night.
Remember the trip to Monaco – where we saw a sign for Pizza for just a couple of Francs. We all piled in only to find we had been tricked when the bill arrived and we had to pay around £5 each for the small bottles of coke.
Hello Miss Walden! You were my teacher for German! I wasn’t on this trip, I believe my year went to France the following year in 88.
Great to see these photos – I’ve shown Geoff Licence too, he’s now a facebook friend.
Best wishes,
Ian Hurd
Hi Ian. How lovely to hear from you. I remember you and – you’ll be pleased to know, for all the right reasons! I hope you continue to enjoy dipping into the Archive.
I didn’t go on this trip but I do remember it. Miss Walden, you were a great foreign languages teacher and Mr Licence was a great Art teacher. I still have art work marked by him. I do recognise Ian Hurd and Clair Waller in the pictures.
Great school memories.

Thank you for your kind comments Teresa. Perhaps you’ll have time to take a look at some of the other Furtherwick items. There are lots of staff photos. You might be able to identify some of the people who I haven’t be able to?
