May Queen at the Convent

1950s

We had a long parade from the Catholic Church to the garden at the back of the old convent. Dr. Lintner’s son, Ivan, carried the crown on a cushion, following me. I can’t remember who else was in the procession. There was an altar set up in the garden with the statue of Our Lady on it. I climbed up steps at the back to crown her. We had a visiting priest at the time (I think he was American ) and as I reached up with the crown he said ‘I bet you feel like Marilyn Monroe now! An odd thing to say but it did relax me.’ Happy days.
