The Welcome Hut

From a bid to establish a Town Council 2005

A photo and postcard were included in the latter section of the Town Council bid. They were of the Welcome Hut. Not the original but the ‘new’ one situated further west. On the back of the postcard was some history of the place, reproduced here.

Mick and Pauline first saw the Welcome Hut in 1989 and saw it could be mage into something. It was in a bad state of repair but they cleaned and tidied up a bit and started trading. It looked very nice with a few tables and chairs on the now weekly cut lawn. They rebuilt part of the building at their own expense to make it bigger and paid more rent to the council. They bought the freehold in 2002. The name they found in local history books.
