Generous customers at Canvey’s 1066 Tavern know how to put their best foot forward when it comes raising a bob or two. Their donation of £366, collected from sponsors who dipped into their pockets to see others carry out a 16-mile trek around Canvey’s sea wall, was presented to a couple of caring nurses from Basildon Hospital.
The money has gone to the BaccaBunny appeal, which aims to provide a children’s playroom in the hospital’s accident department. It was gratefully received by staff nurse Eunice Peel from the Tavern’s Kavorah Catering manager Peter Saunders.
Around nine customers, including assistant manager Jean Miller, of the Tavern in The Paddocks, donned their walking gear for the charity event on March 3. Said Jean: “We are thrilled to bits with our customers.
They really are an extremely generous lot, and they have often raised money for various charities. “We raised money for the BBC children in Need Appeal last year, and now we are planning to do something for Telethon.
“The customers have decided to hold a disco and bribe people to give them money.”
