  • I can only recognise one person, front row, 3rd from the right is Mrs Bindoff who was my needlework teacher at Canvey County Junior school.

  • I am the same as you Janet , Mrs Bindoff is the only person I recognise. Mum who always described herself as ‘cack- handed’ said Mrs B (although a family friend) ‘ Scared the living daylights’ out of her when she went to evening classes for , I think ‘ handicraft’ at Furtherwick and it took a lot to intimidate my Mum.!

  • Mrs Bindoff was my needlework teacher and also 2nd year Junios class teacher at Canvey County Primary, Long Road in the 60s. I was terribly cackhanded (cross eyed no 3D vision…) and terrified of her, but she was unendingly patient and kind. She was proud of her Palestinian roots, and made so many of us realise that the Near East was real, with real people, not some nebulous Holy Land. Think of her whenever Palestine and Palestinians are mentioned

  • I have just been in contact with Mrs Bindoff’s son Laurence who is a Consultant Professor of Neurology at Bergen University in Norway and he has informed me that Mrs B. spent her last years living with her daughter Madeleine in Newcastle and she passed away in 2007. Graham.
