An Island spirit watches its people
With its protective shawl
It lets them free, but draws them back
And when they hear its call
It’s time to return, no reasoning why
Except the Island spirit’s cry
Islanders are the spirit people
Earthy, real and kind
Canvey will always be their home
A knowing smile, a friendly nod
The Canvey spirit is like a God
Worshipped within, invading hearts
Familiar faces, no airs and graces
The wall protects them with its arms
The sea surrounds them with a smile
And the people return within a while
Steeped in a history of kith and kin
It is a yearn that comes from within
Unified, they are as one
A force together and forever
