St Katherine's Lodge comes to the rescue

Large quantity of flood newspapers saved

At the flood exhibition we were handed a large quantity of newspapers from 1953 that covered the flood. Some local some national. Some of these are in a bad state so needed to be put in protective covers as soon as possible. With this in mind we checked out the prices for the appropriate display books with acid free sleeves. We did a quick count up of the number of newspapers (19) and the potential number of pages and prices.

We then contacted our Steve Bullock to see if he could find us a sponsor to cover the cost. With lightening speed he got back to us with a sponsor and we were able to purchase the display books.

We are very grateful to St Katherine’s Lodge of Mark Masters Masons (they originated on Canvey) for providing us with the means to purchase one A2 and three A3 display books. Once all the papers are added to the books we will be able to store them safely. Then be able to use them for our exhibitions so that the public can handle them without too much more damage being done.
