I was amazed to read the smug comments of Mr Dave Watson, a spokesman for the union which has stopped the operation of the VAT system (Echo, April 29).
My business pays VAT to suppliers, yet all our sales are exported at zero rate. While the present industrial dispute continues we are unable to reclaim our own VAT payments. As our profit margin is around 15 per cent, I presume Mr Watson will realise the threats that face us. I trust Mr Watson and his members will offer me and my staff suitable employment after they have obtained the increase in salary they obviously so desperately need.
