Hole Haven

AHJ Series Postcard

Difficult to date the photo on this postcard. If you look at the photo compared to today the only thing that is still the same/similar is the small jetty. The view is totally different. No oil refinery, tanks, chimney’s etc. No black jetty. No NCI station building and jetty.  What can we see? A small steam ship and a crowd of people presumably waiting to board. We wonder where they would be going, perhaps a trip up river to London or out on the estuary. Perhaps they are guests at the probably newly built Kynoch Hotel (1900) a short walk away. Taking into account the clothing particularly of the woman in a long white dress and hat, typical Edwardian style, so very early 1900s.

The card itself was printed by AHJ Series who were printing postcards in the early years of 1900s. This corresponds with the dividing on the back and a place marked for a stamp.
