This photo was taken c1953-57.
It shows Mis Vincent being presented with what looks like a sewingbox. What the reason for the presentation was we do not know. Possibly the 20th Anniversary of the school in 1954.
Violet Verbina Vincent was born in 1901 in Swindon to George and Sarah Jane Vincent. George was an insurance collector in the 1911 census when they were living in Devon.
Quite when she can to Canvey we are not sure but she was definitely here in 1939. Leigh Beck School opened in 1934 so we assume she was the first headmistress.
We do not know when she left but she died in Hertfordshire in 1973
