My dad was born in 1925 in Wales and was “given” to a family who raised him in Canvey Island, Ilford and I assume other parts of Essex. His birth name was changed to Jeffery PRATT.
I have a fair amount of info on dads life but the years from 1925/26 to 1941 when he joined the Merchant Navy are somewhat blank. In correspondence to me when he was alive he mentioned some family names that were associated with his upbringing and I am wondering how to approach finding them….. or their descendants.
Before I post family names and their addresses etc thought I might ask the best way to approach even tho the people from around that time would be gone so I am more than happy to share info here publicly.
What I can share here and now is that dad went to Canvey Island State School and he mentions with some warmth the Headmaster (Mr Read) and a Miss Skinner. I guess this would be around the early 30s. He apparently went to Ilford Hospital with Mastoid of the ears.
I have located him and the family he was with on the 1939 register, but would appreciate any thoughts on how to fill out a bit of historical info on the families he lived with and schools he went to etc. Would there be someone in this group that might be able to assist please?
