This photo of the Commodore Cafe was not dated and the event is unknown to me. Maybe someone will recognise it. The photo was printed by Jacksons Photo Service, Canvey.

I can never ever remember the telephone box being on that side of rd, it was always outside the Jellico even in the days when policemen had to make there points call regularly to police station. No mobiles in them days.

I think you will find Tony it is outside the Jellicoe. The photo has been taken in the front grounds of the Jellicoe. Gives a distorted view.

In the early 60’s, I took part in a police run cycling proficiency test which was took place down by the point. I remember being tested for proper signalling at the roundabout. The most proficient rider (not me by the way!) won a dynamo and lights. This could be related. I don’t immediately recognise anybody from the photo, but will try and enlarge for better scrutiny.

Found out that this cycling proficiency test was about 1961. There was a certificate and an ice cream voucher for the commodore cafe.
