Frederick Champ and family

These photos were sent in by Christine Gibbs who is the great granddaughter of Frederick Champ.

Christine says:

Here is a photo (top one)of my great grandad Frederick J. Champ. He lived in a small cottage called Claremont with his wife Ellen. He died in Canvey in 1951.

This is not the house/club/hotel called ‘Claremont’ that we have elsewhere on the archive. Anyone have any idea where this bungalow was?

We have found him in the 1939 register at the bungalow ‘Percival’ in Oxford road. He is with his wife Ellen stated as being a painter and decorator.

Christine would like to know if anyone can give her any further information.

  • There are two options for “Claremont”.

The first is down Kamerwyk Avenue.

The second (and possibly more likely) is down Oxford road. Claremont was on the West side of the road. Perciville was on the Eastern side.
Claremont was between “Doreen” and “Ora J. Cottage”
