Dutch Cottage 1621

In Haven Road

Roger Thipthorp collection

An unusual view of the Dutch Cottage in Haven Road. No running water in those days. Water had to be fetched from a well. Here it’s conveniently placed in the road outside – it’s the iconic Village Pump with its thatched roof.

The card is postmarked July but the year is illegible. It was sent from Pitsea to Peckham. The writer had been on a day trip to the Island.
