Canvey News and Benfleet Recorder 1963
Miss M. Morgan
Canvey will be saddened this week to hear of the funeral of a well-known and popular resident, Miss Margaret Morgan, aged 65, of 5b, Long Road, Canvey. She was buried’ yesterday (Thursday) at Cardiff.
Miss Morgan had been a nurse at Canvey for over 30 years prior to her retirement five years ago at the age of 60.
She had attended at the birth of over 1,000 Island children.
Miss Morgan collapsed at her home on Saturday and the alarm was raised by a milkman who informed Mr. Arthur and Mrs. Elsie Lesadd. Miss Morgan was seen, through a window to be unconscious, and she was taken to Rochford Hospital where she died on Saturday evening.
Her loss is being deeply felt by the thousands of people on Canvey who knew her and there is talk of a memorial service to her and the raising of a fund to buy a public seat or seats in memory of her. They would be purchased through the George Pickett fund and this newspaper would be pleased to assist and publicise any moves in either direction.
