Disabled athletes are put to the test.

Top class sporting opportunities at Canvey’s Waterside Farm are always too good to miss for disabled athletes from other areas. This year’s annual sports day arranged by Castle Point’s club for the disabled was no exception. Contestants came from afar afield as Ipswich, Tower Hamlets and Harpenden. The club laid on a testing range of indoor and outdoor events, including carpet curling, hockey skittles, netball, bowls, javelin, shot and the oddly-named medicine ball, which involved pushing a seven kilogram weight from the chest. Trophies for the winners if every event were awarded by Castle Point Mayor Betty Wood, assisted by Jeff Jones of Mobil which sponsored the day. Games organiser George Hogbin said:” It was a fantastic day. Other clubs always like coming to us. We have the best sports facilities and the council is very helpful towards the disabled”.
