Typical old Canvey bungalow situated off the Central Wall path near Station Approach. Looks like the only old building left in the area. Although I took a close-up of the name it was not enough to identify the property. So I contacted Martin Lepley who came once again to my rescue to tell me the name was ‘Cheriton’. He also said it was built in the 1920s. The occupants in the 1929 Electoral Roll are Reginald Ernest Hopper and his wife Florence Phoeby nee Hawkins. The property was empty in the 1939 Register. The Hopper family had moved by then to Leigh Park Road, Southend.
Reginald was born in Hackney in 1898 to Ernest and Emily Hopper. He married Florence in Edmonton in 1923. Therefore sometime between 1923 and 1929 they arrived on Canvey Island. Reginald’s occupation on all documentation is Civil Servant. It would appear they moved off the island before 1939 and no further connection to the island has been found. Reginald died in Norfolk in 1962.
Later occupant of the bungalow was F E Connor.

Yes, it was Mr. Connor and his wife and three children, the youngest of which Sheila I think is still on the Island
